About ICM Prague 2014

Congress Theme and Scientific Programme

Prague is known as a city of many bridges which span the beautiful Vltava river. These bridges have inspired the sub-themes for the Prague Congress, which will build on the three pillars required to provide the highest quality midwifery services: education, regulation and association. These sub-themes will identify the bridges we can build with these pillars to improve health outcomes for childbearing women and their newborns globally.

Building bridges in health systems for high quality midwifery services
Regulating and supporting an autonomous midwifery profession
Integrating midwifery services in the community
Developing and promoting evidence based practice
Growing Associations and participating in policy development
Educating our students to the highest standards
Saving maternal and newborn lives

Over the next 12 months a highly skilled international group of midwives will start developing a programme that is topical, stimulating and varied to suit midwives from all backgrounds and experiences. The unique framework of the congress offers a diverse range of activities including: traditional peer- reviewed papers, discussion around work in progress, and workshops on innovative projects; work with International Partners and inspiring Keynote speakers.
